The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have recognised the best television programmes and performances from the 2025–26 season, with Widow’s Bay and The Pitt emerging among the biggest winners of the night.
Gatekeepers News reports that the ceremony was held on September 14, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay serving as host.
Widow’s Bay dominated the comedy categories, winning Outstanding Comedy Series and taking 14 Emmys overall. The achievement saw the series break the record previously held by The Studio for the most Emmy wins by a comedy series.
The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series for the second consecutive year, while Noah Wyle retained the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award for his role in the medical drama.
Rhea Seehorn won her first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus, while Allison Janney received the supporting actress award for The Diplomat. Tom Pelphrey won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Task.
Matthew Rhys was also among the major winners, making history after taking home two lead acting awards. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me.
Jean Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks, while DTF St. Louis was named Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Sally Field won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures. David Harbour and Linda Cardellini also won supporting acting awards for DTF St. Louis.
In the reality television category, The Traitors won Outstanding Reality Competition Program for the third consecutive year, while Alan Cumming was recognised as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won Outstanding Variety Series.

Overall, Widow’s Bay emerged as the night’s biggest winner, while The Pitt maintained its dominance in the drama category. Matthew Rhys’ double acting victory was another major highlight of the ceremony.
