Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen properties.
Gatekeepers News reports that the commission made the declaration in a public notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
According to the notice, Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu in Borno State. The EFCC released his photograph and appealed to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the commission or other security agencies.
The commission said anyone with useful information could reach its offices in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Enugu, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and other locations across the country.
The latest wanted notice comes amid an ongoing criminal case in which Maina is accused of receiving about N738 million in stolen funds. He is being prosecuted alongside Ann Igwe Olachi on a nine-count charge. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Proceedings in the case have previously been delayed by Maina’s repeated absence from court. In February, Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja threatened to revoke his bail over his failure to appear.
“If your client cannot come to court, I will revoke his bail and let them go and get him,” the judge said at the time.
Maina had earlier been convicted by the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2021 over money-laundering offences involving more than N2 billion in pension funds. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and sentence in 2023.
He was released from prison in February 2025 after serving part of his eight-year sentence, following statutory remission for good conduct.
The fresh EFCC action comes several months after the court proceedings in the N738 million case were stalled by his absence. The commission is now seeking information that could lead to his whereabouts.
