Francis-Xavier Sosu, a Ghanaian lawmaker representing the Madina constituency in parliament, collapsed while addressing students at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, while Sosu was delivering a speech to students at the institution. According to footage from the event, the lawmaker began showing signs of dizziness while speaking.
Sosu attempted to steady himself by holding onto the podium but was unable to continue his address. Two people then moved towards him to provide assistance as he became increasingly weak.
The lawmaker subsequently collapsed into their arms and was helped away from the stage for medical attention.
Before the incident, Sosu had been speaking about leadership, his personal experiences and his commitment to public service.
“I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark,” he said during the address shortly before he collapsed.
His office later issued a statement assuring the public that the lawmaker was doing well and had received the necessary medical attention.
“We wish to assure the general public, constituents, supporters, and well-wishers that Hon. Dr. Francis-Xavier Sosu is doing well and has received the necessary medical attention,” the statement said.
The statement, signed by Ivan Dzakpasu, Sosu’s chief of staff, did not disclose the cause of the incident or provide details about the medical attention he received.
Sosu’s office also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid relying on unverified reports or speculation about the lawmaker’s condition.
It said further information would be communicated through the office’s official channels when necessary.
