Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate, has described President Bola Tinubu as a friend of the South-South region, saying the president will receive maximum support from the zone in the 2027 election.
Gatekeepers News reports that Akpabio spoke on Wednesday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The Senate president also called on residents of Akwa Ibom to support Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno in the 2027 elections.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a friend of the South-South zone, and he will get maximum victory from the region and other parts of the country,” Akpabio said.
He said the development of Akwa Ibom should remain above political interests and urged residents to support what he described as continuity in the state’s development.
“The progress of Akwa Ibom must always rise above partisan considerations,” he said.
Akpabio commended Eno for continuing the state’s development programme through the ARISE Agenda, citing efforts in areas including peace, rural development, economic advancement and the welfare of residents.
“I therefore commend Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the journey of development through the ARISE Agenda and for his commitment to peace, rural development, economic advancement and the welfare of our people,” he said.
The Senate president also reflected on Akwa Ibom’s development since its creation in 1987, saying the people of the state remained its greatest resource.
“Our greatest resource has always been our people,” he said.
Akpabio further recalled his tenure as governor, saying investments made in infrastructure, institutions and human capital had provided a foundation for subsequent administrations.
He urged residents to use the anniversary to reflect on the state’s progress while focusing on creating more opportunities for young people, businesses and innovation.
“The task before us is not merely to celebrate how far we have travelled, but to imagine how much farther we can go,” Akpabio said.
Akwa Ibom State was created on September 23, 1987, by the military administration of Ibrahim Babangida.
