Two Injured In Multiple Vehicle Crash

Two people sustained injuries in a multiple road traffic crash at the Tollgate section of the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State, with no fatalities recorded.

Gatekeepers News reports that the accident, which occurred on September 29, 2026, involved 10 vehicles after a Mercedes-Benz truck reportedly lost control while travelling towards Lagos and rammed into other vehicles.

The vehicles involved were a green Mercedes-Benz truck with registration number JJT167XH; black Toyota Camry, MUS745KP; yellow Suzuki bus, LSD647YN; black Toyota Camry, LND862HA; green Acura MDX, MU684KU; ash Lexus Jeep, KSF966HF; black GAC, KTU702EY; yellow Bajaj Maruwa, BDS031VC; yellow TVS Maruwa, EKY870GG; and black Mitsubishi, JBY529AA.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi described the incident as a serious multiple road traffic crash, noting that the exact number of occupants could not immediately be established because all the vehicles were reportedly carrying passengers.

He said that despite the severity of the crash, only two people — a male and a female — sustained varying degrees of injuries, while no death was recorded.

According to the TRACE spokesperson, an eyewitness said the crash occurred after the Mercedes-Benz truck, which was travelling towards Lagos, lost control and collided with the other vehicles.

He said TRACE officers, personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the police were deployed to the scene for rescue and traffic management operations.

Akinbiyi said the two injured victims had already been taken to a hospital by their relatives before the arrival of the rescue team.

He added that some of the damaged vehicles were towed to the PAPA Oscar cage for further investigation, while three others were removed by their owners.

The crash initially caused severe traffic congestion along the expressway, but Akinbiyi said the prompt intervention of the traffic management agencies helped restore normal movement.

He said all the affected vehicles had subsequently been cleared from the roadway and traffic flow had returned to normal.
