Several communities in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State will experience electricity disruptions for six days as MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has announced a planned outage to allow maintenance work at a transmission station.
Gatekeepers News reports that Emeka Ezeh, head of communications at MEDL, said on Monday that the outage would affect the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station in Nsukka from Thursday, November 5, to Tuesday, November 10, 2026.
According to him, the maintenance work will take place daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
“The planned outage is to enable the TCN technical team to carry out maintenance work on some equipment at the station,” he said.
Ezeh explained that the exercise would affect electricity supply to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), SUMAS and Orba 33kV feeders, disrupting supply to customers connected to the affected lines.
He listed the affected communities as Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba Town, Obollo-Afor, parts of Obollo-Eke, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Nkalagu Obukpa, Okpaligbo, Iheaka, Edem Ani, Agbani, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede, among others.
Other affected locations include Odim Gate, Nkpor, UNN, Nru, Ede Oballa, El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A. and Ogige Main Market.
The company apologised for the inconvenience the planned outage might cause and appealed to customers for patience and understanding.
“The exercise is necessary to facilitate essential technical work aimed at improving the reliability and quality of electricity supply to customers,” Ezeh added.
MainPower Cites Reduced Generation for Wider Supply Constraints
In a related development, MEDL said customers in other parts of its service network were experiencing reduced electricity supply because of a decline in power generation, which had resulted in low system frequency.
Ezeh said the situation had compelled the Transmission Company of Nigeria to implement load shedding to manage the available electricity.
“This situation has necessitated the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to implement load shedding of the available energy,” he said.
According to the company, the reduction in its energy allocation had limited its ability to meet daily service-level commitments to customers.
MEDL said it was monitoring the situation and would continue to distribute the available electricity fairly across its network while awaiting an improvement in power generation.
“MEDL wishes to assure its customers that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to distribute the available energy allocation fairly across its network. The company remains hopeful that normal power supply will be restored soon,” the statement said.
The company reiterated its apology to customers affected by the supply constraints and thanked them for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation.
