Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has granted the police permission to reopen their case against Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and call additional witnesses.
Gatekeepers News reports that Justice Peter Kekemeke granted the application filed by the prosecution, led by police counsel, Usman Aliyu, on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, is standing trial on a one-count charge of allegedly providing false information in a petition submitted to the police.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution had earlier closed its case on June 18, 2026, after presenting only one witness.
However, in October, Aliyu approached the court seeking permission to reopen the case, present additional witnesses and introduce further evidence.
The application was opposed by Turaki’s lawyer, Abdulaziz Ibrahim, who urged the court to reject the request.
The defence argued that the prosecution had previously indicated satisfaction with the testimony of its only witness and had not provided sufficient grounds to justify reopening the case.
However, in his ruling, Justice Kekemeke held that the prosecution’s application was meritorious and granted it permission to call additional witnesses.
Following the ruling, the prosecution informed the court that its additional witnesses were not present and requested an adjournment to enable them to appear.
The judge subsequently adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for continuation of trial.
Turaki was granted bail in April in the sum of N100 million, with one surety in like sum.
The latest ruling does not determine his guilt but allows the prosecution to present further evidence as the trial continues.
