Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, has pledged to intensify efforts to attract infrastructure and economic opportunities to the Ajaokuta Steel Company as she begins her campaign for re-election in the 2027 general election.
Gatekeepers News reports that the senator commenced her campaign on Saturday with engagements across communities in Kogi Central, including roadside receptions in Okene and neighbouring areas, before addressing supporters at her residence in Obeiba, Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area.
The activities attracted party members, community leaders and supporters from different parts of the senatorial district.
Speaking during the engagements, Akpoti-Uduaghan promised to sustain her legislative advocacy for the development of the district, particularly the long-standing concerns surrounding the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
“I’ll intensify efforts to develop Ajaokuta. It remains a priority,” she said.
The lawmaker said her relationship with constituents extended beyond electoral contests, describing the people of Kogi Central as her family and the motivation behind her commitment to public service.
“My relationship with the people of Kogi Central goes beyond elections. These are my people, my family, and the very reason I remain committed to public service.
“I do not need an election season to remember where I come from or who entrusted me with the responsibility of representing them. What we witnessed today is a reflection of the bond we have continued to build over time.
“I am deeply grateful to everyone who came out, not because they were compelled to do so, but because they believe in the journey we have undertaken together. Their love and confidence mean a great deal to me, and I will never take them for granted,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to attracting critical infrastructure, economic opportunities and development interventions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents across the district.
She maintained that effective representation goes beyond occupying public office, stressing the importance of engaging regularly with constituents, responding to their needs and pursuing purposeful legislative interventions.
Akpoti-Uduaghan Marks Third Senate Anniversary With School Donations
Meanwhile, the senator marked her third anniversary in the Senate on Monday by donating smart devices, including laptop computers, to selected secondary schools across Kogi Central.
The schools visited were OCSS Oboroke, Adavi Model Secondary School, Adavi Eba, and Community Secondary School, Obangede.
She said the initiative was designed to promote digital inclusion and expand students’ access to modern learning opportunities.
“For me, the essence of representation is not simply to occupy an office or make speeches in the chambers of the National Assembly. It is about making a difference in the lives of the people who entrusted us with their mandate,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan described education as a critical investment in society’s future, adding that the donated devices would provide students with opportunities for learning, innovation and empowerment.
“Education remains one of the most important investments we can make in the future of our society. These smart devices are not merely computers; they are instruments of opportunity, learning, innovation and empowerment.
“I want our children to understand that their geographical location should never limit their access to knowledge or their aspirations in life,” she added.
The senator encouraged students to embrace digital literacy and remain committed to their education.
She also urged teachers and school administrators to ensure that the devices were properly maintained and deployed for educational purposes.
Reflecting on her three years in the Senate, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her legislative priorities had included education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic empowerment, agriculture and youth development.
She specifically highlighted her advocacy for the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Ihima, which she said was aimed at improving access to specialist healthcare for residents of Kogi Central and neighbouring communities.
Other constituency priorities she listed included improved road networks, access to potable water, better school facilities and the provision of solar-powered public infrastructure.
