Nigeria’s Economy In Shambles Under Tinubu – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, stating that they have worsened Nigeria’s economy.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, Abubakar said, “Predictably, 12 months on, Tinubu’s pledge of growing the economy and ending misery remains unfulfilled. His actions or inactions have significantly worsened Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability.”

Abubakar highlighted that Nigeria has slipped to the 4th position in Africa, behind Algeria, Egypt, and South Africa, and that citizens’ hopes have been dashed due to the multiplication of economic woes.

He emphasized that Tinubu’s policies have pauperized the poor and bankrupted the rich, creating a hostile environment for businesses and a cost-of-living crisis for Nigerians.

The former presidential candidate recommended that Tinubu should “pause and reflect, undertake a comprehensive review of the 2024 budget within the new reform framework, undertake a comprehensive review of the social investment programmes (SIP) to mitigate some of the impact of these policies on the most vulnerable households”.

He also urged the president to stop introducing new taxes, provide clarity on the fuel subsidy regime, and tackle security headlong.
