Sokoto State House of Assembly has on Tuesday passed the Sokoto Emirate Council Amendment Bill through first and second readings.
Gatekeepers News reports that passing the bill into law will disempower the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, from appointing kingmakers and appointing district heads without government approval, among other things.
Recall that Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) had on Monday voiced its concern about an alleged plan by Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, to depose the Sultan of Sokoto.
