Suicide Attempt: Police Send Abuja Man For Mental Evaluation

The young man who climbed a high broadband mast at Aso Radio in Katampe, Abuja, in an attempt to commit suicide on Monday, Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau has been sent for a mental evaluation at Social Development Secretariat (SDS).

Gatekeepers News reports that the young man threatened to commit suicide unless his demand of government to restore fuel subsidies and put an end to insecurity is met.

Yushau was taken into custody by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command after he was finally convinced to descend from the mast.

Subsequently, police on Tuesday said he will undergo a mental assessment to determine his state of mind.

Police Public Relations Officer, FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, while giving an update stated that Yushau would be charged with attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement if he is found to be mentally stable after the assessment.

Adeh said, “The suspect, if found to be mentally stable after the test, will be charged in court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to Sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.”

Commissioner of Police,FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, urged residents to remain law-abiding while emphasising that the police would not tolerate any actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
