Woman Dies – Children Injured In Building Collapse

A one-story building collapsed in Makwarari quarters in Kano metropolis on Friday.

Gatekeepers News reports that a 35-year-old woman named Balarabe Tijjani died and two of her children were injured in the building collapse.

According to reports; the building collapsed after a downpour in the area which lasted for many hours from Thursday night through Friday morning.

A resident who was a witness said the deceased and her two children, Abdulnasir, 11, and Abdallah, 13, were rescued and rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital but the mother did not survive.

The resident said, “After rescuing the victims from the debris, they were transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Unfortunately, Tijjani succumbed to her injuries while the children are currently receiving treatment.”

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the incident through a statement released on Saturday.

The PRO revealed that the one-storey building collapsed at about 9:30 am on Friday.

He said, “Therefore, the building crushed three people, mother, Balaraba Abba about 35 years old and two children, Abdulnasir Jilani about 12 years old and Abdullahi Jilani about 9 years old.”

“With the effort of the people around the area all victims were rescued alive and taken to Murtala Muhammad hospital on the arrival of the brigade.”
