Stakeholders from Southern Borno Senatorial District, on Tuesday, donated the sum of N200 Million to assist victims of the flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri and Jere Councils of Borno State.
Gatekeepers News report that the stakeholders also presented the sum of N 10 Million exclusively to the Shehu of Borno, Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi whose place was also affected by the flooding.
Led by the Deputy Governor of Borno state, Hon Umar Kadafur and Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume representing the zone and Traditional leaders as well as other eminent personalities converged at the Government House, Maiduguri where they sympathise with the state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum over the unfortunate incident
The deputy governor revealed that donation was put together by all strata of the people from the South Borno Zone to display their love and concern for victims of the flood disaster where the majority of the victims are in different Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Maiduguri and Jere Councils
Presenting the Cheque to Governor Zulum, the deputy governor commended the commitment and speed with which the stakeholders put the donation together.
According to him “We are here Your Excellency on behalf of the Southern Borno people. We are not here alone but with four of our Emirs of Biu Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, Uba, Alhaji Ali Ismaila Mamza, Shani, Alhaji Nasir Mohammed Mailafiya and Gwoza Local Government Area, Alhaji Mustapha Idrissa Timta and many other stakeholders.
“First, is to commiserate with you and the victims of the devastating flood disaster, and secondly to pray that Allah grant the souls of those who have died rest and wish the injured ones quick recovery.
“We are also here to present a dummy cheque of N200 million to the State Government Flood Basket Fund. We want to assure you that you are not alone, as the people of Southern Borno are strongly behind you in this trying moment,” Kadafur said.
Senator Ndume had said, “Sequel to the live broadcast last week, where the governor sought assistance from well-to-do individuals, the leader of Southern Borno, Kadafur summoned a meeting of stakeholders of the zone, where it was unanimously agreed that willing people in Southern Borno from Nigeria and in Diaspora should contribute to a dedicated account.
Governor Zulum while responding expressed his deep appreciation to the deputy governor and the entire people of Southern Borno for not only coming in large numbers to sympathize with him the people of the state , but also donated a huge amount, which he said would be used transparently for the purpose intended.
Zulum therefore urged the people of the zone to unite, pointing out that unity will bring about more development to the zone.
