Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, on Thursday, inspected some roads and bridges damaged by the flood disaster that hit Maiduguri Metropolis and the surrounding local government areas.

Gatekeepers News reports that Zulum also assessed hospitals damaged by the flooding in a bid to come up with adequate measures to address the situation.

This was made known when Governor Zulum visited some flood-ravaged areas of Gwange maternity, roads and bridges, Fori and Moro-Moro all located within Maiduguri, the state capital.

Zulum, while lamenting the destruction caused by the flooding revealed that houses built on the river banks obstructed the flow of water from river Ngada.

According to the governor, the construction of houses along river banks exacerbated the flooding noting that “the water could have passed onto the lowlands without affecting the main city.”

The governor added: “The quantum of the destruction was enormous, you can see we had just visited the first location. It is very unfortunate that some people choose to build houses right inside the waterways which obstructed the water passage.”
