Yemen’s largest airbase has been attacked by Houthi rebels on Sunday, as about seven pro-government troops were killed while many others were injured.
Gatekeepers News reports that Yemeni southern forces spokesman Mohamed al-Naqeeb said Houthis launched a series of strikes using armed drones and ballistic missiles on the al-Anad military base, in the government-held southern province of Lahij.
Medics said they received seven bodies and treated more than 50 people injured.
Armed forces spokesman also acknowledged there were casualties but did not give numbers. The fatalities were confirmed by a local pro-government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Residents said they heard several loud blasts in the al-Anad area. The rebels are yet to make any statement concerning the incident.
