Chief of Army Staff ( COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, at weekend, asured that the Nigeria Army is fiercely prepared to halt the lingering 15-year old Boko Haram Insurgency and that all measures are being installed to archive its aim.
Gatekeepers News reports that part of the plans to put a final stop to Boko Haram terrorists attacks includes the acquisition of new platforms, introduction modern technology and the renewed vigour of troops to root out insurgents from their enclaves.
COAS disclosed this during his three-day working visit to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State where he interfaced with officers and soldiers of the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai who are saddled with the responsibility to fighting the insurgents.
Lt Gen. Oluyede said the Boko Haram insurgency have outstayed its welcome and that Army is already deploying kenetic and non-kinetic measures towards bringing the insurgents to their knees.
According to COAS, there’s going to be new approach to fighting the insecurity within the North-East Region pointing out the change in operational strategy and collaboration with relevant stakeholders will yield better results towards ending the insurgency.
“We’ve been fighting this insecurity (Boko Haram Insurgency) for the past 15 year and I think it’s time fot us to put an end to it.
I’m here (in Maiduguri) to meet my officers and soldiers, to encourage them and see how we can fashion the way of ending this insecurity here,” Lt Gen Oluyede said.
The Army Chief maintained that the new fighting equipments will be deployed to the Theatre Command to support troops in decimating the the insurgents
” We’re going to bring in more impetus into our operations, bring in more platforms to support the soldiers so that they can do their work well .” Lt Gen Oluyede said.
