On New Year’s Day, billpayers in England faced increases in energy prices, with additional hikes anticipated in the second quarter of the year.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ofgem, the industry regulator, has removed the price cap, resulting in a typical annual household bill for gas and electricity rising to £1,738, compared to the previous figure of £1,717.

This new rate is nearly twice the levels seen prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and is projected to increase by another 3 percent in April 2025.

In addition to energy price hikes, public transportation costs have also risen. The fare for single bus trips has increased from £2 to £3 per day.

The previous £2 cap, implemented by the Conservative government in response to the cost of living crisis, has now been replaced with a £3 cap that will be applied throughout the year for most bus journeys in England.
