Gatekeepers News reports that the Louisiana Republican secured his position through a vote that largely followed party lines during the initial round, according to reports from Fox News.
This re-election occurs amidst dissent from some conservative members who previously expressed concerns over Johnson’s approach to government funding and other matters addressed in the 118th Congress.
Despite these tensions, Johnson’s allies cautioned that a protracted struggle for the Speakership could interfere with Congress’ scheduled joint session to certify the victory of President-elect Donald Trump, which is set for January 6.
Additionally, Johnson received significant backing from President-elect Donald Trump, who reiterated his support for the GOP leader shortly before the voting took place.
