Nigerian Police Cybercrime Unit Recovers N8bn – Named Best In Africa

Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) has been distinguished as the leading cybercrime unit in Africa for 2024, according to the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate located in Singapore.

Gatekeepers News reports that this accolade coincides with the unit’s report on the recovery of over ₦8.8 billion and substantial amounts of cryptocurrency and US dollars, which have been restituted to victims of cybercrime.

In the year 2024, the NPF-NCCC successfully recovered a total of ₦8,821,001,881.80 (Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty-One Million, One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Eighty Kobo), 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 (Eighty-Four Thousand Dollars).

The unit has also made significant strides in law enforcement, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of over 751 individuals implicated in cybercriminal activities.

The operations conducted by the Cybercrime Unit led to the confiscation of 685 devices utilised in various cybercrimes. This equipment included 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops and computers, 46 routers, 4 servers, 1 drone, and 4 Starlink devices. Authorities also seized 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles, effectively disrupting the operations and infrastructure supporting these illegal activities.

The NPF-NCCC recently apprehended four individuals—Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody—on multiple cyber-related charges.

Nigeria Police Force, in a statement released on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reaffirmed its dedication to addressing cyber threats and improving national cybersecurity measures.
