Nigerian Government has received $52.88 million in recovered assets associated with former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke from the United States.
Gatekeepers News reports that Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, made this announcement during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja.
During his address, Fagbemi outlined the allocation of the recovered funds, stating that $50 million will be channelled through the World Bank to support rural electrification projects, while the remaining $2 million will be allocated to the International Institute of Justice to enhance the justice system and combat corruption.
Fagbemi emphasized that the return of these assets represents a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against corruption and the promotion of the rule of law. He also noted that this event reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to addressing corruption in the country.
In his remarks, Richard Mills, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, urged the Ministry of Justice to monitor and effectively utilize the recovered assets to ensure they benefit the Nigerian populace.
