Tanker Explosion Kills 60 People In Niger

At least 60 people lost their lives were lost in a tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Niger State in the early hours of Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander for the state, Kumar Tsukwam confirmed the tragic incident that has left the state in mourning.

Tsukwam said the incident occurred when a petrol tanker truck overturned, spilling fuel and some impoverished residents rushed to scoop up the spilled petrol.

He said, “ “Large crowd of people gathered to scoop fuel despite concerted efforts to stop them.”

“Suddenly, the tanker burst into flames, engulfing another tanker. So far 60 corpses (have been) recovered from the scene.”

Tsukwam added that firefighters had managed to put out the fire.
