Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced plans to carry out its annual maintenance on two 100MVA transformers at the Apo 132/33kV transmission substation in Abuja.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Friday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokesperson, said the company’s maintenance crew will carry out the exercise on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in temporary power outages that will last for several hours.

“The maintenance is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 9 am to 4 pm each day,” Mbah said.

“Consequently, on Saturday, February 22, the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro will experience power interruption for seven hours, while on Sunday, February 23, Apo Legislative Quarters, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Apo Mechanic, and surrounding areas will experience a seven-hour power interruption.

“The planned power interruptions are unavoidable, as Abuja DisCo will be unable to receive bulk power supply from the transformers during the maintenance period.”

Mbah assured that power supply will be restored to the affected areas once the maintenance exercise is completed.

She apologised on behalf of the company for any inconvenience the exercise may cause the affected electricity customers.

The company also announced in another statement that its engineers in Kaduna have begun constructing a new switchyard for the 330kV Kaduna-Jos double circuit transmission line bay.

Upon completion, the TCN said the project will alleviate existing line limitations, increase grid flexibility, and further enhance the reliability of power supply.
