Senate has started a two-day public hearing focused on proposed tax reform bills, convening key stakeholders from various economic and financial sectors.
Gatekeepers News reports that the attendees include Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mele Kyari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), members of the Federal Executive Council, heads of relevant agencies, and Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Customs.
Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, emphasised the commitment to a transparent process driven by national interest.
He stated that the hearings aim to review and reform the nation’s tax laws to better align with current economic conditions. The proposed reforms are intended to promote equity, fairness, and inclusivity while addressing inefficiencies within existing tax policies.
The Senator encouraged stakeholders and the general public to engage actively in the discussions, highlighting the significance of collective input in developing a tax system that promotes economic growth and fosters national prosperity.
