The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has asked supreme court to review the judgment stopping disbursement of federation account allocation committee (FAAC) funds to Rivers state.
Gatekeepers News reports that supreme court on Friday, affirmed the judgment of a federal high court that barred Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and accountant-general of the federation (AGF) from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers state.
Gatekeepers News reports that apex court also ordered the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of Rivers state house of assembly and other elected members to resume sitting.
Recall that federal high court had stopped release of funds to Rivers after Siminalayi Fubara, the state Governor failed to re-present 2024 Appropriation Bill before Amaewhule-led assembly, loyal to Nyesom Wike, minister of federal capital territory (FCT).
The supreme court also nullified the local government election held in Rivers state on October 5, 2024.
Alaye Theophilus, president of IYC in a statement issued on Tuesday, noted that stopping FAAC allocations to Rivers would deny the state of development.
He added that as a major contributor to the nation’s coffers, Rivers should not be starved of funds, therefore the apex court should review the judgment.
Theophilus added that the verdict has agitated the Ijaw youths who have been peaceful and supportive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
