Cross River State Police Command has clarified the circumstances surrounding a serious motor accident that occurred on April 24, 2025, along Abakpa/Igoli Road in Ogoja Local Government Area.
Gatekeepers News reports that the accident involved a BMW vehicle driven by Bassey Precious, who was accompanied by Caleb Fidelis Okem.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the driver attempted to resist arrest by suspected armed men in a white Toyota Hiace Bus. However, a viral video posted on TikTok by Joseph Otonko falsely alleged that police personnel were involved in the accident.
“The Command immediately invited Joseph Otonko for interrogation and clarification on his claims. Following a thorough engagement, the said Otonko has since retracted his earlier allegations and has produced a second viral disclaimer video, where he publicly exonerated the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from any wrongdoing in relation to the motor accident,” the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ugbo Irene.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosanyin, while appreciating members of the public for their continued cooperation, urges all citizens to remain law-abiding, constructive and responsible in their expressions.
He noted that spreading falsehoods and inciting content against security agencies is not only unlawful but counterproductive to the peace and progress of our society.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and service delivery. Citizens are therefore encouraged to seek proper clarification and engage through legitimate channels before drawing conclusions or making public statements.”
