Lagos State High Court, located at Tafawa Balewa Square, has sentenced Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a driver for the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), to death by hanging.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision comes after Ominikoron was found guilty of murdering Bamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer.
The verdict, delivered by trial judge Sherifat Sonaike, concluded a case in which Ominikoron, along with others who remain at large, was accused of conspiring to rape and kill Bamise.
In February 2022, Bamise boarded a BRT bus but failed to reach her destination. Subsequently, her lifeless body was discovered by the roadside in a state of undress.
Following an investigation, the driver of the BRT bus she had used, Ominikoron, was arrested and charged with murder.
Throughout the trial, he maintained a plea of not guilty, but the court has now convicted him, resulting in a death sentence.
