Lagos state government has suspended all planning approvals along Lagos-Calabar coastal highway with immediate effect.
Gatekeepers News reports that Oluyinka Olumide, commissioner for physical planning and urban development, announced the decision at the state secretariat in Alausa on Monday.
Olumide noted that the suspension was necessary to address the significant impacts the coastal road project has had on Lagos’ physical development frameworks, including the recently completed Ode-Omi action area plan and the ongoing Ibeju-Lekki model city plan and Lekki comprehensive master plan.
He said, “The Lagos-Calabar Coastal road has affected our development plans considerably. It is crucial to review and realign the project with these plans to prevent further distortions.”
“Therefore, planning approvals along this corridor are temporarily suspended until further notice.”
The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has been directed to enforce the suspension.
The commissioner reassured residents of the government’s continued commitment to creating an organised, livable, and sustainable urban environment, while positioning Lagos to benefit fully from the coastal highway project.
