A delegation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, held a meeting with the leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting took place at INEC headquarters in Maitama area of Abuja.
The meeting follows controversy surrounding the party’s proposed National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for June 30.
Led by Umar Damagum, the party’s acting national chairman, the delegation includes four serving Governors including Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, and Caleb Mutfwang.
Others are Bukola Saraki, former senate president; Abba Moro, senator representing Benue south; Seriake Dickson, the Bayelsa west senator.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who received the delegation alongside other senior officials, reiterated the commission’s commitment to upholding its legal obligations and ensuring due process is followed in party affairs.
Earlier in May, INEC rejected PDP’s notice for its NEC meeting. Although the party had earlier submitted a 21-day notice, as required by law, the commission objected because the letter was signed only by Damagum.
According to the electoral commission, such a notice should be jointly endorsed by the party’s national chairman and secretary.
