Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has reiterated his proposal for a single term in office, saying he doesn’t need more than four years to provide good governance for all Nigerians.
Gatekeepers News reports that on Sunday Politics programme, Obi emphasised his determination to bring about positive change.
“I don’t need a day more than four years. I will show the direction of good governance,” Obi said, announcing his intention to run for president in 2027.
“In two years, there have been maximum damage. Two years can change it in good direction. People want to get up and see a president that cares, that shows compassion.”
When asked about potentially becoming the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Obi dismissed the idea. “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”
Peter Obi stressed that he remains a vibrant member of the Labour Party, despite being an active member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country.”
The opposition coalition, which includes prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola, adopted the ADC as their platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid in 2027.
