The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly denied claims that it abducted and coerced Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, into resigning from his position.
Gatekeepers News reports that sources within the anti-graft agency described the allegations as “ridiculous and mischievous,” responding to an article published by an online platform on Saturday.
The report alleged that EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, detained Ojulari on Friday and forced him to sign a resignation letter. It also claimed that Adeola Ajayi, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), was involved in the incident.
A source familiar with the matter dismissed the accusations, saying, “ There was no need there was no need for Olukoyede to abduct or force anyone to resign an appointment because he is not an appointing authority.”
“Besides, if he needs anyone to account for anything, he does it by writing or inviting the person formally.”
“ Whatever does not follow such procedures is not true and should not be taken seriously. EFCC chairman is not a bully. He is a law-abiding chief executive of the nation’s most important anti-graft agency.”
