JUST IN: FEC Approves 5-Year Ban On Creation Of New Federal Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, has approved a five-year suspension on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions nationwide.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision, which applies to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, aims to halt the proliferation of institutions.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the move is necessary as the current challenge in Nigeria’s education sector is no longer access but the strain caused by duplication resulting in deteriorating infrastructure and inadequate manpower.
