Lawyer representing Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger who was recently released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos, has stated that her client has not decided whether to press charges against the airline.
Gatekeepers News reports that Emmanson’s lawyer, Adefunke Maria, stated this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Thursday.
“On the way forward, whether Comfort will allow the sleeping dogs lie, she will inform us, we can’t disclose that online.
“She is a full-grown adult. If she is going to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. But for now, we can’t decide for her. She will revert.
“For now, she just needs to rest, put herself together.”
The altercation between Emmanson and Ibom Air staff occurred on a flight from Akwa Ibom to Lagos, resulting in Emmanson’s arrest, arraignment, and remand in prison. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many criticising the airline’s handling of the situation.
Maria condemned the treatment of her client by the airline’s flight attendant, who blocked Emmanson from disembarking upon arrival. She also criticised the airline’s staff for filming the incident and releasing it online.
The Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, intervened on August 13, 2025, ordering the withdrawal of charges against Emmanson and lifting the lifetime flying ban imposed on her by the airline.
