Explosion Rocks Army Storage Building In Ogun

An early morning explosion on Thursday damaged parts of the Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, after a device went off inside one of the army’s storage buildings.

Gatekeepers News reports that the facility belongs to the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

According to the Nigerian Army, the explosion sparked a limited fire incident but caused no casualties.

In a statement, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, confirmed that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Anele noted that it was swiftly contained through the combined efforts of troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service.

He added, “Importantly, no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained. The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials.”

The director urged residents of llese and nearby communities to remain calm as a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences.

The Nigerian Army assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding its personnel and neighbouring communities.
