Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has admonished Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, to purge himself of bitterness.
Gatekeepers News reports that the APC’s criticism stems from Obi’s recent comments on President Bola Tinubu’s engagements abroad, which the party described as “a desperate cry for relevance.”
The party, in a statement on Friday by its spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, accused Obi of hypocrisy, noting that he spent considerable time lobbying in foreign capitals after his election loss, yet now criticises President Tinubu for engaging in diplomatic activities.
According to the APC, Obi’s actions are driven by personal frustration and a deep-seated bitterness towards the current administration.
The party described President Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts as strategic initiatives aimed at repositioning Nigeria on the global stage, attracting foreign investment, and forging beneficial partnerships.
The APC urged Nigerians to see through Obi’s criticisms, characterising them as a self-serving attempt to distract from the progress being made under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement reads: “President Tinubu’s travels are not joyrides, as Obi’s social media tantrums would suggest. They are strategic missions to reposition Nigeria on the global stage, attract foreign investment, and forge partnerships that will yield long-term benefits for Nigerians. President Tinubu governs with purpose, clarity, and global reach.
“Even respected global figures like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala — known for her independence and intellect — have acknowledged that under President Tinubu, Nigeria’s economy is stabilising. But Mr. Obi would rather deny facts, distort narratives, and sabotage progress just to remain politically relevant.
“We advise Mr. Obi to look inward. What he sees as national commentary is nothing more than a projection of his political frustrations and chronic bitterness. His obsession with President Tinubu is unhealthy, unproductive, and unbefitting of someone who once aspired to lead a nation.
“We urge Nigerians to see through the charade — to recognise Mr. Obi’s consistent negativity for what it is: a self-serving, ego-driven distraction from the real work being done to rebuild Nigeria.
“President Tinubu remains undistracted and committed to delivering on his Renewed Hope Agenda. No amount of commentary will derail the progress that has begun.”
