A fatal crash on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway in Yobe State has claimed the lives of seven passengers and left many others injured.
Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred on Tuesday when the driver of a commercial vehicle travelling towards Maiduguri lost control, causing the vehicle to somersault.
Several occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries. Residents rushed to the site to rescue victims, who were later taken to a nearby hospital.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency publication, medical officials confirmed seven deaths on arrival, while others remain hospitalised, with some reported to be in critical condition.
This is not the first fatal accident on the busy highway. In February, at least 10 people died when a truck transporting cement and passengers veered off the road after its brakes failed, colliding with a Sharon car before plunging into a ditch.
