Taofik Coker, Nigeria’s consul-general in Buea, Cameroon, is dead.
Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement was made by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the federal ministry of foreign affairs, in a statement released on Wednesday.
Coker passed away on August 16 following a brief illness.
“Ambassador Coker was a hard-working and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities,” the statement reads.
“His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large.”
He was appointed as consul-general in April 2024 by President Bola Tinubu and took on his duties the following month, with a commitment to enhancing relations between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Prior to his role in Buea, Coker had an extensive diplomatic career, serving in various capacities, including assignments in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China.
The ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
