Nigerian singer, David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido has disclosed that he almost retired from music before releasing his smash hit ‘With You’, a collaboration with Omah Lay.
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking in a recent interview on Noire TV, the singer recounted how the song, featured on his latest album 5ive, exceeded all expectations.
He said that while he knew a joint track with Omah Lay would attract attention, he never foresaw it turning into a global sensation. Davido described the track as a blessing that came at a decisive point in his career.
He also highlighted how rare it is for an artist to experience a major hit more than a decade into their career, expressing his gratitude for the song’s success.
Davido said, “Obviously, it is the biggest song on the album. You definitely cannot tell (which song becomes a hit in an album).”
“But I knew Davido and Omah Lay would go regardless of whatever happens. But I did not think that it was going to be like a whole thing.”
“We thank God that 13, 14 years after for me to have this kind of a song. People used to have this kind of song at the beginning of their career or in the middle.”
“I was even getting ready to bow out and God gave me this kind of song. It definitely added more light to it. I am grateful. And the two actors are amazing.”
