Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to ensure justice over the killing of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, who died in an armed robbery attack at her Abuja residence.
Gatekeepers News reports that Maduagwu was reportedly attacked on Sunday night at her home in the Katampe district and was later confirmed dead at the Maitama General Hospital early Monday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the journalist’s death as “tragic and painful,” pledging that security agencies would thoroughly investigate the case.
“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad,” the minister said.
“I will ensure that the police unravel the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.”
Wike also cited a report submitted by Dolapo Fasawe, the FCT Administration’s Mandate Secretary for Health, confirming that Maduagwu was brought in dead to Maitama General Hospital. He said the preliminary medical report would be handed over to police investigators.
The minister extended his condolences to Maduagwu’s family, colleagues at Arise Television, and the Nigerian media community, describing her passing as “a loss to the entire nation.”
