Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-1 win against Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase clash at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night.
Gatekeepers News reports that the European champions displayed patience and composure, exploiting Barcelona’s trademark high defensive line to seal victory in a tense encounter.
Despite being without several first-team playersincluding Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, PSG still delivered a disciplined performance. Barcelona, meanwhile, welcomed teenage star Lamine Yamal back into their starting lineup.
The hosts went in front in the 19th minute when Ferran Torres slid home Marcus Rashford’s low cross to make it 1-0. PSG, however, responded confidently and found their breakthrough in the 38th minute. Nuno Mendes pierced the Barcelona backline with a well-timed pass that allowed Senny Mayulu to slot in the equaliser.
Both teams created chances in the second half, but it was the French champions who had the final say. In the 90th minute, Gonçalo Ramos broke free of the offside trap to meet Achraf Hakimi’s delivery, calmly finishing to seal all three points.
The win puts PSG on six points from two matches in the league phase, while Barcelona remains on three points after their first defeat.
Elsewhere in Europe, Arsenal registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Olympiacos with goals in each half, while Monaco held Manchester City to a dramatic 2-2 draw in France, courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty, despite Erling Haaland’s brace.
Newcastle United also celebrated their first UCL win of the season with a thumping 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
