In significant move to showcase the growing peace and booming business activities in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters at the weekend converged in the state to hold its 2025 stakeholders retreat.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Two-Day retreat according the Committee Chairman, Hon.Ahmadu Usman Jaha, is holding in conjunction with National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, (NDIC).
The Federal Legislator made this known when he and his colleagues paid courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Hon Umar Usman Kadafur and the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence Alh, Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-amin Elkanemi in Maiduguri.
Hon Jaha who represents Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok federal constituency stated the that the committee was deliberate about the choice of Maiduguri as venue for the retreat noting that it’s to acknowledge and commend the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and Governor Babagana Zulum’s leadership in tackling insecurity in the state.
According to Hon. Jaha who led a 70 -member delegation to Maiduguri, believes it’s time to change the narrative about the city. He invites everyone to come and experience Maiduguri for themselves, whether for conferences, business, or leisure, and feel at home.
” In the past some people would require prayer warriors to pray for them before coming to Maiduguri but that’s is no longer the case as peace has returned to substantial parts of Borno State. ” Hon Jaha stated.
The Chairman of the House Committee urged his colleagues to consider Borno as an ideal destination for thier future committee engagements, citing the state’s impressive infrastructure development under Governor Zulum’s leadership as a major advantage.
Hon. Jaha, a veteran lawmaker with two terms in the Borno State Assembly, believes the retreat will yield valuable insights that will shape more effective legislations on insurance and actuarial matters .
At the Shehu of Borno Palace, members of the committee took turns to pay homage to the monarch where his eminence had a robust interaction with the legislators
” Your coming here to my palace is a clear testimony of your respect to the traditional institutions. Let me commend you all choosing Maiduguri as a place to conduct your retreat. Please feel free as we call on many Committees of the House and other institutions or organizations to emulate you by visiting Borno, the Home of Peace for their retreats and other engagements”. His Eminence said .
The Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Omosehin said the retreat will ” bring about stronger collaborations between regulators, the legislators and the Nigerian public ” point out that ” one of the key areas we’re focusing on is how to depen the subject of insurance with our country and how to make Nigerians benefit from the sort of protection insurance provides .”
