Manchester United recorded a stunning 2–1 triumph over Liverpool in their English Premier League (EPL) clash at Anfield on Sunday.
Gatekeepers News reports that Harry Maguire emerged as the hero for the visitors, heading home the decisive goal late in the match to hand United all three points after Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo had briefly drawn the hosts level.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for United just two minutes into the game, taking advantage of a disorganised Liverpool defence to convert Amad Diallo’s clever pass with a precise low finish that quietened the home supporters.
Moments later, Bruno Fernandes almost doubled the lead but struck the outside of the post, as Liverpool continued to struggle to find rhythm in the early exchanges.
The Reds eventually found their footing in the 78th minute when Federico Chiesa’s low cross was tapped in by Gakpo at the back post to restore parity.
However, United responded swiftly from a corner kick that Liverpool failed to clear properly. Fernandes whipped in a pinpoint delivery that Maguire nodded past the helpless goalkeeper to make it 2–1.
The Red Devils are in ninth place on the league table with 13 points, just two behind Liverpool, who now sit fourth with 15 points from eight matches.
