Wale Edun, Nigeria’s minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has returned to the country following a medical trip overseas.
Gatekeepers News reports that a short video circulating online showed the minister at Fraser Suites, Abuja, where he held a closed-door meeting on Sunday with a Qatari delegation. Also present at the meeting was Jumoke Oduwole, minister of industry, trade, and investment.
Edun had earlier left Abuja for Lagos last Monday night via a commercial flight before travelling abroad for medical attention. His absence had stirred public concern after Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, confirmed last week that the minister was “indisposed.”
Due to his health situation, Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington D.C.
Before his return, Edun was seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth during the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. A video shared online showed him addressing guests at the event.
Onanuga, who posted the clip on X, clarified that Edun was in the United Kingdom on an officially approved short break. He wrote, “Finance minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the UK. He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy.”
