Elon Musk, founder of xAI, has launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia designed to rival Wikipedia.
Gatekeepers News reports that announcing the platform in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Musk said the goal of Grokipedia is to promote truth and objectivity.
“Grokipedia version 0.1 is now live,” he wrote. “The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal.”
Musk, who has often accused Wikipedia of “ideological bias,” claimed that the first version of Grokipedia is already “better than Wikipedia imo.”
He added that improvements to xAI’s chatbot, Grok, will enhance Grokipedia’s performance, saying the team is “embedding the principles of critical thinking and cogency into Grok.”
The launch follows a week-long delay from its initial October 20 rollout. Musk said the postponement allowed his team to “do more work to purge out the propaganda.”
Emphasising openness, Musk assured users that “Grokipedia.com is fully open source, so anyone can use it for anything at no cost.”
The billionaire has frequently criticised Wikipedia on social media, alleging that it is dominated by “far-left activists.” He has also urged users to “stop donating” to the platform, writing, “Defund Wikipedia until balance is restored.”
Since the launch, Musk has shared tutorials on navigating the AI-powered encyclopedia — including how to correct errors and share links — as part of efforts to familiarise users with the new platform.
