Gunmen on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra and ex-minister of labour and employment, along Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ngige was not present in the convoy at the time of the attack. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, disguised in police and army uniforms, opened fire on a woman who was recording the incident.

A shop owner who approached to investigate the commotion was also shot, along with a policeman in the pilot car, whose uniform and firearm were reportedly taken by the attackers. The pilot car itself was heavily riddled with bullets, but all victims survived the shooting.

Anambra Police spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident on Thursday, revealing that officers recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV that was stolen by the gunmen during the attack.

He said, “The recovered vehicle has been secured and taken into police custody for further investigation, while the operatives have stepped up a coordinated statewide manhunt for the fleeing armed hoodlums.”

The spokesperson added that updates would be provided as the situation develops.
