Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has disclosed that three personnel were shot dead when armed men launched a coordinated attack on the Bakin Ruwa checkpoint in Kebbi State.

Gatekeepers News reports that Kemi Nandap, the comptroller-general, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by A. S. Akinlabi, the service spokesperson.

The attack occurred on Thursday night under the Tuga border patrol formation, where the assailants also vandalised operational equipment and other facilities.

According to the statement, the service is extending condolences and support to the families and colleagues of the officers, describing their deaths as a sacrifice made in the course of protecting Nigeria’s borders.

Nandap said a tactical response team had been deployed to the area, alongside reinforcements sent to stabilise the formation.

She added that the NIS has strengthened joint operations with other security agencies, increased intelligence activities along the Tuga axis and intensified patrols to prevent further incidents.

The comptroller-general noted that the service remains firm in its border security duties and urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with security operatives.
