Lagos State University has condemned a recent online skit that portrayed a staged bandit invasion on its campus.
Gatekeepers News reports that the video, posted earlier by a creator known as Datreez Entertainment TV and later removed, was titled “Bandits Prank on Lasuites.”
In the clip, young men dressed in jalabiyas with turbans were seen dramatically walking into a lecture hall. Another scene showed a similar group stepping out of a vehicle, leading to visible panic among students. Some students ran for safety, while others appeared confused as they observed the act.
The content drew widespread backlash online, with many viewers describing it as inappropriate, especially considering the tense security atmosphere in Nigeria.
In a statement, Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the university’s spokesperson, said the institution strongly disapproves of any performance that depicts banditry, terrorism, or violent acts.
She stressed that LASU did not authorise the video and does not support content that may instill fear or disturb the peace on campus.
Reacting to the criticism, Datreez Entertainment explained that the skit was never intended to frighten the school community. The group said the recording took place in a controlled setting to prevent any form of harm or distress.
They described the video as a social experiment created purely for entertainment and noted that no dangerous items were used. The creators apologised to the university for any unease the skit caused.
According to their statement, every scene, action, and reaction captured in the video was fully staged, involving participants who were aware of the concept and voluntarily part of the production.
