Former National Human Rights Commission chairman, Chidi Odinkalu, has faulted ex-attorney-general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, over his claim that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is treating him in a political manner.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a post on X on Sunday, Odinkalu accused Malami of hypocrisy, describing his time in office in harsh terms.

He wrote, “Someone should tell Abubakar Malami to please sit this out. He was a grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General.”

Odinkalu said Malami had no moral ground to complain if the anti-graft agency was now acting politically. He added, “If he’s now complaining that EFCC is political, they should tell him that they’re following what he taught them. They have no need to deny it!”

The comments came after Malami accused EFCC of cancelling his bail because he attended a political meeting in Kebbi State.

The commission, however, denied the allegation, saying Malami failed to meet five conditions attached to his provisional bail.

EFCC insisted it is not political and advised the former minister to meet his bail terms instead of making what it called “bogus claims”.

Malami, who is under investigation over 18 alleged offences, including money laundering and abuse of office, has maintained that he did not violate any of his bail conditions.
