National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Mohammed Sani, accused of supplying illegal drugs to bandits in Niger State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the agency said Sani, widely known as “Gamboli”, is believed to be a key supplier of illicit drugs to bandit groups operating in Shiroro local government area of the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said operatives recovered a large quantity of cannabis from Sani’s home in Anguwan Makera, Kuta, during a raid carried out on November 20.
Babafemi explained that 471.8 kilograms of skunk were seized from the residence, but the suspect escaped at the time of the operation.
He said, “Though he escaped arrest during the raid and has since been in hiding, the manhunt for him eventually paid off on Thursday 11th December when NDLEA officers acting on processed intelligence traced and arrested him at one of his drug joints in Anguwan Fadama, Kuta.”
The NDLEA spokesperson also disclosed that operatives uncovered a codeine syrup production facility in Amapu Igbengwo village, Umuakpara, in Osisioma local government area of Abia State, where 9,015 bottles of the substance weighing 1,152.2 kilograms were recovered.
Babafemi added that several arrests were made in other states as part of ongoing operations.
Additionally in Enugu state, operatives on Thursday 11th December arrested Ossai Emeka, 45, along Onitsha – Enugu Ezike road with 7.2kg skunk.
Enoje Agada, 40, was nabbed along Enugu-Ezike -Ette road with 94.6kg of same psychoactive substance.
He further said NDLEA officers raided a drug spot in Oyo State known as “Beere the California”, where various substances were seized.
The statement added, “A raid carried out by NDLEA operatives at a notorious drug joint known as ‘Beere the California’ at Ido in Oyo state on Thursday 11th December led to the seizure of 3.4kg skunk, 1.6kg Colorado, a synthetic cannabis, and 400grams of methamphetamine.”
According to the statement, the owner of the joint, identified as “Idowu the killer”, fled the scene, while one suspect, Ajibade Faruk, was arrested.
Babafemi added that another operation in Ibadan led to the arrest of Olusanya Abosede, 35, and the seizure of 238.4 kilograms of skunk.
