Senate has confirmed the appointment of three nominees as non-career ambassadors after considering and adopting a report by its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Gatekeepers News reports that the report was presented during Tuesday’s plenary by Sani Bello, senator representing Niger North and chairman of the committee.
The nominees confirmed are Emmanuel Ayodele Oke from Oyo State, Lateef Kayode Are from Ogun State, and Aminu Muhammad-Dalhatu from Jigawa State.
Bello told lawmakers that the committee subjected the nominees to a detailed screening exercise and found them qualified for diplomatic roles.
He said, “The committee has carefully and thoroughly screened the three nominees and is satisfied with their qualification, exposure, conduct, character, experience, and general performance”, adding that the nominees demonstrated strong knowledge of international relations and diplomacy.
He noted that the committee unanimously recommended their confirmation, urging the Senate to approve their appointments.
Following the adoption of the report, the Senate confirmed the three nominees as non-career ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the ambassadors-designate and expressed confidence in their ability to represent the country effectively.
He said, “I congratulate the ambassadors-designate and wish them successful tenures in any country they are posted to.”
