President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the names of two nominees to the Senate for confirmation as chief executives of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Gatekeepers News reports that the nominations were announced in a statement on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy.

The request followed the resignation of Farouk Ahmed, former head of the NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, who served as chief executive of the NUPRC.

Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari after the creation of the regulatory agencies under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

In letters to the Senate, Tinubu sought expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as chief executive officer of NUPRC and Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as chief executive officer of NMDPRA.

Eyesan is an economist and a former executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, where she spent about 33 years.

She retired as executive vice president, upstream, in 2024 and previously served as group general manager for corporate planning and strategy.

Mohammed, a chemical engineer and former managing director of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, has also led Nigerian Gas Company and held several board chairmanships within oil and gas sector.

He recently served as group executive director and chief operating officer for gas and power, where he was involved in major gas infrastructure projects and policy initiatives.
